Did you know that the fashion industry is the second most environmentally polluting industry in the world, behind oil and gas (according to Ecowatch)? That’s an alarming statistic, and one that we don’t want to contribute to.
Our production here, at Nouvelle Vague, is solely made on demand—no products are being created without an order. This effort of ours is to help reduce the ridiculous amount of waste fashion brands produce on a yearly basis. This practice allow us to spread the word & vision of Nouvelle Vague while also avoiding any leftover inventory and waste; which to us, sounds like a win.
When ordering a product throughout our shop, the print company we are using will also manage the delivery. It is a less personalized approach, one that we’re not too keen on, but one that will avoid unnecessary shipping therefore unnecessary CO2 emissions.
Of course, we know that we have more work to do and more things to implement for a more sustainable practice, whether it’s in the fabrics we are using, the packaging we ship your products in or the factory we use and the health of their employees. We would have thought that in 2020, finding resources on how to implement those practices in your business would be easy to find and easy to get, but surprisingly, it is still extremely hard to get the contact of those who can help you, without mentioning the financial burden that comes with it that as of now we can not undertake.
We are doing our research and are working towards becoming more sustainable. Once we have found what we’re looking for, we’ll share our discovery with you and give you all the key information you need to get started as well, because what’s the point of having sustainable practices if we only keep it to ourselves? We’re not planning on becoming a fashion brand, but we want to help you, artists, photographers and potential brands, to launch a company that reflect your values.
Together, we can make things change.
